TRANSPORTATION IN KADUNA POLYTECHNIC

Transportation in Kaduna Polytechnic
A matter of urgency
Transportation has being a major issue to be talked about within the confines of the institution. And as such, emphasis should be laid on how this issue could be tackled. Kaduna Polytechnic is one of famous and largest polytechnic in the sub-Sahara, West African with the population of 30,000 students currently running OND, HND, PGD programs.
Amongst other challenges faced within the institution, transportation is one of the major concerns that should be treated with utmost confidentiality. In the Kadascope publication of July, 2004 there was a move by the Gamji Memorial Club to the Management to purchase a new bus. In the quest to tackle transportation challenge, the management in 2008 decided to increase tuition fee by N1000 per student, and the amount realized was not enough to purchase two buses therefore the management decide to balance the required amount needed to purchase 2 Marco polo, 55 seater’s bus. Despite the available buses yet insufficient to students.
Nevertheless the personnel are there to actively carryout their responsibilities, but the facilities are insufficient to make them execute their jobs effectively. With population 0f 30,000 students just presently have 6 buses, which are 2 Marco polo, 2 Coaster buses, and 2 PTF bus to be precise. Only these buses are been used to convey student to various campuses within Kaduna metropolis.
Another issue is the take off time for the buses, which is not convenient to students due to the fact that, student having read through the night you are expected to wake early get to ready in order to meet up with the bus that is expected to take off before 7:00am. Apart from the
At time, most students commence lectures by 9:00am, but because of the wrong timing of the bus. They will have to wait for another two hours before their lecture time, especially those of college of Administrative and social Science Studies (CASSS). Also another challenges faced the student is catching up with bus after their lectures for the day. Students whose lecture exceed1:00pm miss the bus which takes off by that particular time.
With the urgency at hand, the management should set up a Committee that will foresee the affairs of transportation by so doing it will go a long way to make the transportation unit effective; such committee can also improvise solutions in aspect of providing more buses for the institutions. The committee can also function by reviewing a particular time that the buses can take off everyday to various campuses; the committee can make sufficient and reliable sources of funds that will be adequate to maintain and operate the existing transportation system.

INCREASE RATE OF BORROWING IN NIGERIA

The rate of borrowing money in Nigeria has increased over the years. The current president of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has borrowed the largest amount of money so far.
Former president Obasanjo to current president Buhari borrowed money, the chart shows how FG’s debt profile surged 658% to N26.9trn in 21 year.

Nigeria’s public debt has been on the rise. Despite securing debt relief during the Olusegun Obasanjo led administration, successive governments have continued on a borrowing spree the federal government’s component of the public debt surging 658 percent to N26.9 trillion in the last 21 years.
This has raised concerns among Nigerians on the debt sustainability of the country amid dwindling revenue to meet the debt obligations to creditors.Within two weeks, the senate approved three different loan requests by President Muhammadu Buhari. On July 7, 2021, the upper chamber approved a loan request of 2.343 trillion, approximately $6 billion and another $8.3 billion and €490 million.
Defending one of the loan requests, the Debt Management Office (DMO) said it is part of a borrowing plan for the 2021 budget.“The proposed new capital raising is the new external borrowing provided in the 2021 Appropriation Act to part finance the deficit in the budget. In other words, the new capital raising has already been approved in the budgetary process by the executive and legislative arms of government,” the DMO had said in a statement.
As of March 2021, Nigeria’s total public debt has hit N33.1 trillion ($87.24 billion) an accumulation of borrowings from successive governments, of which most were borrowed since the return to democratic rule in 1999.  The rate in which the country Nigeria borrow funds is much, the country has been trying to revive it’s industries and the agricultural sector.

MORE NIGERIANS KIDNAPPED IN 2021 THAN IN 2020

MORE NIGERIANS KIDNAPPED IN 2021 THAN  IN 2020
The statistics also show that mass abductions have increased dramatically and the burden of kidnapping, which used to be borne by the Northeast and South-south, has shifted to the Northwest and North-central regions.
The rate of kidnapping in Nigeria has more than doubled so far in 2021 compared to previous years, available data has shown. By analysing data collected through the Nigeria Security Tracker (NST) between 2015 and June 2021, HumAngle observed a growing trend in the number of mass abductions as well as the total number of people who are victims of kidnapping in the country. While in 2017, there were 484 kidnapping victims, the figure grew to 987 the following year, then 1,386 in 2019, and 2,860 in 2020.Between Jan. 1 and June 30, this year, at least 2,944 people have already been reported kidnapped — making 2021 the worst year yet based on this security index. These numbers are higher if communities along the border areas in Cameroon, Chad, and the Niger Republic are taken into account.
The number of kidnapping incidents has increased too, from 110 in 2015 to 135 in 2016, 140 in 2017, 156 in 2018, 330 in 2019, 437 in 2020, and then 315 in the first half of 2021.Another worrisome trend is the increase in the number of mass abductions. The average number of victims per incident has increased over the years from 2.6 in 2016 to 9.4 this year. While there were five abductions in 2015 with over 20 victims, Nigeria recorded 11 of such cases in 2018, eight in 2019, 25 in 2020, and 31 within the first six months of 2021.
Young people, especially those enrolled in school, are some of the commonest targets of these large-scale atrocities. This year alone, students have been kidnapped in their tens and hundreds in Kagara, Niger State; Jangebe in Zamfara State; Afaka in Kaduna State; and Yauri in Kebbi State .
A tally done by This Day Newspaper estimate that, as of March, over 618 schools had been closed in Northern Nigeria due to the frequent attacks and abduction of students. The affected states included Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, kaduna,Niger, and Yobe. The numbers from NST also show how the wave of kidnapping has shifted from one region to the other.Back in 2015, the Northeast and South-south had the highest numbers of victims as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency in the former and acts of militancy in the latter. But, a few years down the line, especially in 2020 and 2021, the North-central and Northwest have now become the hardest-hit regions due to spreading terrorism and banditry.   This year, states in the Northwest had 1405 victims of kidnapping, followed by the North-central region (942), then Northeast (211), Southwest (169), South-south (140), and Southeast (77).Growing insecurity in Nigeria has been attributed to alarming unemployment rates, the smuggling and circulation of small arms, as well as the under staffing and under equipping of security forces. In a report published last year, research group SBM Intelligence described the problem as the “democratisation of the kidnap industry,” estimating that, between 2011 and 2020, at least $18.34 million was paid as ransom to kidnappers in the country.   In a statement released Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari urged the military to “respond to the worrying situation in a language that the bandits understand.” He added that the security agencies were working on new methods and policies that had started to yield positive results in the troubled regions. Available data, however, appears to disagree with this assessment.

The Lack of seats and Conducive atmosphere of learning…

Kaduna polytechnic lack seats and conducive environment of learning for their students. The number of students is too much then the capacity of classes and seats.

The number of students given admission is much, making the student uncomfortable in a place of learning, during the heat student find it difficult to concentrate in class during lectures.

The lack of fans and light in the class does not make lecture fun and interesting.

Struggle of the Girl Child

The girl child is seen most at time as nothing valuable in the society, they are only seen as wife, daughters and helpers who duties is to stay at home and serve, girls are maltreated, abused, traffic, hawking on the street in the burning sun.

Women endure many unspeakable things and sometimes do so in silence, when they do share they get hit with labels like “attention seeker,liar”e.t.c.

However the times are changing, whereby women now own businesses, women are now bread winners of their family, women holds political positions making decisions in the country, women are selfmade, their opinions are now regarded as important. We have women like Ngozi the former minister of finance, the deputy governor of Kaduna state e.t.c these are some of the women that are making meaningful impart in Nigeria.

Now there are female lectures, bankers, president, ministers, governors, ambassadors e.t.c. Women struggle to survive in society, before the girl child was not allowed to go to school but now the number of girls in school is much more than the number of boys in school, the girl child was maltreated and misholded but now women has power to fight or speak for themselves…

Women have proving the saying that says:What a man can do a woman can do much more better( 👑 girl power).
