TRANSPORTATION IN KADUNA POLYTECHNIC

Transportation in Kaduna Polytechnic
A matter of urgency
Transportation has being a major issue to be talked about within the confines of the institution. And as such, emphasis should be laid on how this issue could be tackled. Kaduna Polytechnic is one of famous and largest polytechnic in the sub-Sahara, West African with the population of 30,000 students currently running OND, HND, PGD programs.
Amongst other challenges faced within the institution, transportation is one of the major concerns that should be treated with utmost confidentiality. In the Kadascope publication of July, 2004 there was a move by the Gamji Memorial Club to the Management to purchase a new bus. In the quest to tackle transportation challenge, the management in 2008 decided to increase tuition fee by N1000 per student, and the amount realized was not enough to purchase two buses therefore the management decide to balance the required amount needed to purchase 2 Marco polo, 55 seater’s bus. Despite the available buses yet insufficient to students.
Nevertheless the personnel are there to actively carryout their responsibilities, but the facilities are insufficient to make them execute their jobs effectively. With population 0f 30,000 students just presently have 6 buses, which are 2 Marco polo, 2 Coaster buses, and 2 PTF bus to be precise. Only these buses are been used to convey student to various campuses within Kaduna metropolis.
Another issue is the take off time for the buses, which is not convenient to students due to the fact that, student having read through the night you are expected to wake early get to ready in order to meet up with the bus that is expected to take off before 7:00am. Apart from the
At time, most students commence lectures by 9:00am, but because of the wrong timing of the bus. They will have to wait for another two hours before their lecture time, especially those of college of Administrative and social Science Studies (CASSS). Also another challenges faced the student is catching up with bus after their lectures for the day. Students whose lecture exceed1:00pm miss the bus which takes off by that particular time.
With the urgency at hand, the management should set up a Committee that will foresee the affairs of transportation by so doing it will go a long way to make the transportation unit effective; such committee can also improvise solutions in aspect of providing more buses for the institutions. The committee can also function by reviewing a particular time that the buses can take off everyday to various campuses; the committee can make sufficient and reliable sources of funds that will be adequate to maintain and operate the existing transportation system.
